Russell Wilson Struggles in Giants Debut
The New York Giants acquired Russell Wilson in the offseason, but his debut was tepid at best, with the offense looking disjointed most of the game.
So who’s to blame — the offensive coordinator, or Russ, who may no longer be able to cook? Giants fans may even be pining for Daniel Jones after the lack of production.
Caleb Williams vs. J.J. McCarthy
The much-hyped Packers-Vikings tilt gave fans a look at two first-round QBs.
Chicago’s Caleb Williams started 10-for-10, making it look like the No. 1 overall pick had arrived. But he finished just 11-for-25 the rest of the way, leaving Bears fans wondering if another first-round QB bust could be in the making.
Meanwhile, Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy, the ninth overall pick, had the opposite start. He opened poorly, including a brutal pick-six, but recovered to lead a comeback with two TD passes and a rushing score. Was his fourth-quarter surge a sign of things to come — or just an anomaly?
Mahomes Without His Top Weapons
The Chargers-Chiefs game in São Paulo, Brazil, again sparked comparisons between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.
Mahomes played without Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, and the Chiefs’ offense looked sluggish. Can Mahomes elevate the unit without two of his best receivers, just as Brady once did with a cast of no-names?
Rodgers Outduels Fields in New York
In New York, Aaron Rodgers outdueled Justin Fields to lead the Steelers to a narrow road win. Rodgers threw four TDs and looked surprisingly mobile, while Fields was solid in his Jets debut.
It’s just one game, but both teams may finally have answers at quarterback.
Geno Smith Leads The Raiders To Win
The Raiders also looked rejuvenated behind newly acquired QB Geno Smith. He threw for 326 yards in a 20-13 win over the Patriots in Foxborough. Like Rodgers, Smith showed what a steady veteran presence can bring to an offense.
Jordan Love and Micah Parsons Shine
Finally, the Packers-Lions matchup at Lambeau Field featured Jordan Love sparking the Packers’ offense, while LB Micah Parsons was a difference-maker on defense.
Parsons repeatedly disrupted Jared Goff and could be the defensive catalyst that makes Green Bay a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
It’s now on to Week 2!
