QB Matt Ryan, Falcons at 49ers – “The Machine” projection: 22.0
Unlike years past, Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan has been particularly inconsistent. In his last four games, he’s thrown for five touchdowns and five interceptions. In week nine, the Falcons will travel to Levi’s Stadium to face the appalling 49ers, who plan to start Blaine Gabbert at quarterback… Anyway, it’s not that the 49ers field a great defense, it’s that I think Devonta Freeman will run wild. San Francisco has already allowed nine rushing touchdowns and gives up 123.8 rushing yards per game. I expect Freeman to give them the lead early and never look back. Also, the 49ers have been able to intercept seven passes this season.
RB LeSean McCoy, Dolphins at Bills – “The Machine” projection: 14.2
While this isn’t the worst matchup McCoy will face this season, “The Machine” ranks him as the eighth best running back going into week nine. This season, McCoy has failed to rush for more than 100 yards in any game. Even though the disappointing Dolphins surrender 124.4 rushing yards per game, they’ve allowed just four rushing touchdowns on the year as opposed to 15 through the air.
WR Randall Cobb, Packers at Panthers – “The Machine” projection: 16.2
It looks as though the struggles for Randall Cobb will continue in week nine. He’ll face the undefeated Panthers who are coming off an overtime win on Monday night. Even with Aaron Rodgers, Cobb hasn’t been able to receive more than 50 yards in a game since week three. The Panthers rank fourth in the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed with seven. Also, facing cornerbacks like Josh Norman and Charles Tillman is no easy task. Look for the Packers to rely more on the ground game, as the Panthers run defense hasn’t been exceptional.
TE Jordan Reed, Redskins at Patriots – “The Machine” projection: 15.4
Despite playing in just five games, Jordan Reed has been a go-to player in the Redskins’ offense. He’s averaging 70 receiving yards per game and has scored three touchdowns. Before the bye, Reed hauled in 11 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, Reed will go up against the defending champions in week nine. In week eight, the Patriots gave up just seven points to the Miami Dolphins, who are arguably more talented on offense. Also, the Pats have given up just two touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season. If you’re a Reed owner, check waivers.
