QB Drew Brees, Falcons at Saints – “The Machine” projection: 23.0
Just two weeks ago, Brees was coming off his best performance of the season. He led his rag-tag bunch to an overtime win against the struggling Dallas Cowboys. In that game, Brees completed more than 80 percent of his passes, threw two touchdown passes and failed to turn the ball over. Last week was a different story… Brees completed a tad more than 60 percent of his passes and threw an interception. The Saints scored just 17 points in a blowout loss to the Eagles. Week six will be tough for Brees. He’ll go up against a Falcons’ defense that ranks sixth in the NFL in interceptions and has scored three times in the last two weeks, including a game winning interception against the Redskins.
RB Charcandrick West, Chiefs at Vikings – “The Machine” projection: 13.4
The Chiefs’ new running back, Charcandrick West, is projected to be the 11th highest scoring back this week in fantasy updates. That seems like a bit of a reach. Does he have potential? Sure. I’m just not sure how Andy Reid will use the second-year player. Will he give him full reign of the offense? Or will he rely on veteran Knile Davis to handle the majority of the carries? I guess we’ll see Sunday. If I’m a West owner, I take the wait-and-see approach.
WR Antonio Brown, Cardinals at Steelers – “The Machine” projection: 16.6
After two weeks, it’s clear that Mike Vick and Antonio Brown don’t have the best chemistry. In the last two weeks, Brown has caught just eight passes for a total of 87 yards. In week six he’ll go up against a Cardinals’ secondary that leads the NFL in interceptions with 11. Expect the Steelers to rely heavily on Le’Veon Bell in both the run and pass game.
TE Gary Barnidge, Broncos at Browns – “The Machine” projection: 11.8
Barnidge has made a splash in recent fantasy news, but he could be a potential bust this week. To be fair, it’s not like “The Machine” is ranking Barnidge as the top tight end going into week six, he’s ranked 10th. I just don’t like his matchup. The Broncos’ defense is arguably the best in the NFL. They lead the league in sacks and receiving touchdowns allowed. Even though Browns’ quarterback, Josh McCown, enjoyed success against the Ravens, it’s hard to see him doing the same against Denver.
