Quarterbacks… Could there be two opposite QB personality in Cousins and Minshew?
- Kirk Cousins, Vikings v. Eagles … Even though Minnesota wants to run run run, the way you move the ball on Philadelphia is through the air
- Gardner Minshew II, Jaguars v. Saints … The rookie is QB 11 through 5 weeks
- Kyle Allen, Panthers @ Buccaneers … Tampa Bay has given up at least 300 yards passing in 4 of 5 weeks, which includes 333 yards to Cam Newton in Week 2
Running Backs… slim pickin’s
- Adrian Perterson, Redskins v. Dolphins … New interim Head Coach Bill Callahan wants to “establish the run”
- Gus Edwards, Ravens v. Bengals … Could see positive game flow and a few extra carries
- Ito Smith, Falcons @ Cardinals … He’s splitting snaps with Devonta Freeman and he draws a match that plays into his favor no matter if Atlanta is ahead or the game shoots out
- Reggie Bonnafon, Panthers @ Buccaneers … Showed promise against Jacksonville. Might lead to more touches
- Jon Hillman and Elijhaa Penny, Giants v. Patriots … This probably falls in the “avoid but worth noting” column, if Wayne Gallman and Saquon Barkley are both out on Thursday night then Hillman and Penny are interesting plays for the desperate
Wide Receivers…
- Mohumad Sanu, Falcons @ Cardinals … Safe floor guys with upside to catch a touchdown and, fun fact, he leads Atlanta WRs in snaps this season
- Preston Williams, Dolphins v. Redskins … Coming off a bye Williams seems to have a connection with Josh Rosen and has a solid matchup against the Washington “tailspins”
- Paul Richardson Jr., Redskins @ Dolphins … has as good a chance as any Washington receiver to get open deep
- Jamison Crowder, Jets v. Cowboys … Only if Sam Darnold returns
Tight Ends… remains a wasteland
- Gerald Everett, Rams v. 49ers … The Los Angeles tight end has amassed 180 yards and a touchdown over the last two weeks
- Chris Herndon, Jets v. Dallas … Returning from suspension for the desperate because Dallas has been solid against the position so far this season
- Ricky Seals-Jones, Browns v. Seahawks … Call this a hunch, but athletic tight end, like Pittsburgh’s Vance McDonald and Rams’ Everett, have troubled the Seahawks this season
Defense… still picking on the reliably bad
- Cowboys v. Jets … Lock play if available
- Panthers v. Buccaneers … In their second go against Tampa Bay, Carolina know how to get after the QB and Jameis Winston is good for a pick or two
- Redskins v. Dolphins … In an ugly matchup Washington is more capable of sucking less
- 49ers v. Rams … San Francisco has been a consistent performer registering multiple sacks and at least one interception in each game
Kickers… looking for shootouts and good weather
- Zane Gonzalez, Cardinals v. Falcons
- Chase McLaughlin, Chargers v. Steelers
- Chris Boswell, Steelers @ Chargers
- Dustin Hopkins, Redskins v. Dolphins
