My Week 2 so some wild fantasy point swings and could have gone either way. Fortunately for me the coin tosses all landed in my favor, and my three teams are collectively 6-0. If you had some similar matches in Week 2, I hope the the coin tosses all landed in your favor.

Last week I mentioned in one of my articles about how important it is to own your league's waiver wire. I thought about that more, and this week I elaborated on that and wrote  How To Own Your League's Waiver Wire.

If you are familiar with the format of my "Streamers for the Desperate" articles, then skip the following introduction. The only difference this week is that I tried to loosely rank the available players within their perspective position.

While it is too early in the season to be desperate for streamers, especially since we aren't into the bye week part of the season yet, I name this article as such because it is generally for deeper roster leagues (18-to-24-man rosters) and as the season progresses, especially in the 24-man roster leagues, the pickings can get very thin. For example, you won't see Braelon Allen (RB, NYJ) in this article because he isn't available in any of my leagues. However, you will see him in Alex Cuilla's article, Week 3 Fantasy Football Waiver Adds, because he is less than 50% owned in Yahoo leagues.

I list the players that are available on waivers in my three leagues and generally that scored more than 10 fantasy points (PPR). The players with an asterisks are available in my 24-man roster league. As we get deeper into the season, no matter how slim the options, I always list a couple available players for each position from my 24-man league.

I have loosely ranked the players but you need to decide which players are right for your team. Your criteria for deciding will be different depending on your need and if you are in a redraft, keeper or dynasty league.

The ranking in parenthesis after each player is the strength of the Week 2 opponent against that position. So a "1st" indicates the most difficult opponent for that position, and a "32nd" indicates the weakest opponent against that position.

As much effort as it is, I make waiver requests every week for all of my teams. I don't just try to fill in obvious immediate needs, but look to make my team better to the last man on the roster. A deep roster creates resilience against injury. It also results in other teams having less good options, increasing the opportunity to trade to teams that truly are desperate and thereby build my draft pick arsenals.

For example, in my dynasty league I came in 2nd place last year, I had have the 3rd highest fantasy points in the league after Week 2, I have 10 rookies on my roster (two are on IR) and still I have arsenal of three 1sts, two 2nds, one 3rd picks for 2025 and three 1sts, three 2nds and five 3rds picks for 2026. Active waiver wire participation has been a big part of building that arsenal.

Quarterbacks

  • Sam Darnold, Min v Hou (23th) - Darnold has played consistently well the first two weeks of the season, scoring 2 TDs each week and adding a handful of runs in Week 2. If he keeps this up, he is a legit QB1 for fantasy.
  • Gardner Minshew, LV v Car (27th) - Minshew isn't going to awe fantasy players, but he's a solid QB2 if you need a band-aid.
  • Will Levis, Ten v GB (19th) - Levis improved in his 2nd game of the season. Look for the trend to continue. He should be a servicable QB2 against the Packers in Week 3.
  • Justin Fields, Pit @ LAC (1st) - Fields only has 1 TD, has thrown for only 273 yards so far this season, and is up against the toughest defense in the league against the pass in Week 3. He is a marginal QB3, but could help you if you are in a 2-QB league.
  • *Jacoby Brissett, NE v Sea (14th) - The Patriots have been relying on their ground game, giving time for Brissett to grow into the offense. So far so good for Brisset, as he has no turnovers thus far and scored his first TD in Week 2. Against a tough Jets D in Week 3 don't expect much, but could be a flex and stash in 2-QB leagues.
  • *Malik Willis, GB @ Ten (4th) - The 3rd year veteran was used conservatively in his first week as the Packer's starter, but he did well, completing 12 of 14 attempts and throwing 1 TD with no interceptions. Look for him to build on his Week 2 accomplishment as he continues to start under center in Love's absence.

Running Backs

  • Justice Hill, Bal @ Dal (32nd) - Hill has been out-snapping Derrick Henry and has been making the most of his opportunities, both rushing and receiving. In the first two weeks he averages 5 yards per carry on 5 carries and caught 8 of his 10 targets for 62 years. As the Ravens continue to fine-tune their offense, expect his volume to increase against the softest team against the run in Week 3.
  • Rico Dowdle, Dal v Bal (6th) - The 5-year back led the backfield for the Cowboys in Week 2 with a total of 11 touches for 59 yards. Add a TD in there, and he could start to be interesting as the 9-year veteran, Ezekiel Elliott, could continue to see his share of carries decline.
  • *Emari Demercado, Ari (1st) - The sophomore back racked his had four touches so far this year, sitting behind James Conner and rookie Trey Benson on the depth chart. However, he made the most of it, racking-up 41 yards on only two carries. With Benson averaging less than 2 yards per carry and Conner in his 8th year, Demercado is worth a stash in dynasty if you have the space, but he probably should stay on your bench in Week 3 against a stout Cardinals D.
  • Carson Steele, KC @ Atl (5th) - With Isaih Pacheco on IR, rookie Steele looks like he will get the start in Week 3. He has only 9 touches so far this year, and has averaged only 3 yards per carry, with a lost fumble, but he has a big opportunity to prove himself this week. He will be sharing carries with Samaje Perine, who is more of a 3rd-down back.
  • Jamaal Williams, NO v Phi (18th) - For the second week in a row, Williams was mostly 2nd-half filler against another hapless team, the Cowboys, allowing Alvin Kamara some time off after his off-the-charts performance. So Williams remains both game-script and TD dependent, and should remain on the waiver wire, unless you are really desperate for an RB or want Kamara's handcuff.
  • *Kyle Juszczyk, SF @ LAR (29th) - With only 5 touches (all were receptions) in two games so far, the 12-year back doesn't have the volume or the long term potential to be worth a spot on your roster unless you are extremely desperate to fill an RB slot in a deep-roster league.

Receivers

  • Demarcus Robinson, LAR v SF (29th) - Robinson shined the last part of the 2023 season when Rams receiving corps was dealing with injuries then. Fast forward 2024. Here we are again. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are both sidelined, and Robinson is the Rams WR1. He will shine again in 2024, and should be picked up in all formats.
  • Alec Pierce, Ind v Chi (13th) - Pierce caught 5 of his 7 targets for 56 yards and a TD. The struggling Anthony Richardson (QB) seems to be trusting Pierce more, and if the Colts can improve the flow of their offense with Richardson behind center, Pierce could become a weekly starter for fantasy.
  • Jerry Jeudy, Cle v NYG (14th) - I am not sure why Jeudy is available one of my keeper league's waiver wire, but Jeudy is the Browns top receiver so far this year, ahead of Amari Cooper.
  • *Jalen Nailor Min v Hou (19th) - Nailor caught 3 of 4 targets for 54 yards and a TD. Both, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison are a bit banged up. If one of them doesn't start in Week 3, Nailor could see an expanded role.
  • *Josh Reynolds, Den @ TB (16th) - Reynolds is a perennial waiver wire / streamer option that consistently gets moderate volume. He caught 4 of his 5 targets for 93 yards in Week 2, and is a decent streaming option for Week 3.
  • Jalen Tolbert, Dal v Bal (27th) - Tolbert caught 6 of 9 targets for 82 yards in Week 2. Is the 3rd-year veteran on the verge of a break out season? It's possible and he's worth a stash in deeper roster leagues.
  • Andrei Iosivas, Cin v Wsh (32nd) - Iosivas only gained 7 yards on both of his two receptions last week, but that's because they were both TDs. If Tee Higgins stays sidelined, look for Iosivas to get moderate opportunities against a porous Commanders defense.
  • Darnell Mooney, Atl v KC (10th) - Darnel Mooney only has caught 4 of 10 targets, but for a total 103 yards and a TD, and most of which came in Week 2, as he builds chemistry with Kirk Cousins. Expect Mooney to have a moderate volume of touches going forward.
  • Allen Lazard, NYJ @ NE (28th) - Lazard's volume declined in Week 2 and Mike William's snap share and volume increased. Expect Williams to get the lion's share of volume as the No. 2 receiver behind Garrett Wilson.
  • Tutu Atwell, LAR v SF (29th) - Atwell only has 3 catches on 4 targets for 48 yards, but expect his volume to increase as Cooper Kupp becomes another injury causality joining Puka Nacua on the sidelines.
  • Wan'Dale Robinson, NYG @ Cle (12th) - Robinson caught 2 of his 4 targets for 18 yards and a TD in Week 2. He only has a 50% catch rate so far, but that could be on Daniel Jones. The 3rd-year Robinson has potential as a young receiver, but it's limited with Jones behind center.
  • Elijah Moore, Cle v NYG (15th) - Moore is getting decent volume and has caught 9 of 14 targets so far this season. He is Deshaun Watson's short field favorite target, and most of his 53 yards this season are after the catch. Expect his volume to remain high, but his yardage and TDs to remain low as Watson continues to struggle.

Tight Ends

  • Mike Gesicki, Cin v Wsh (1st) - Caught 7 of 9 targets for 91 yards in Week 2, but is up against the top D against TEs in Week 3. Could be a good long term acquisition as he continues to build chemistry with Joe Burrows.
  • Zach Ertz, Wsh @ Cin (14th) - Caught all 4 of his targets for 62 yards. leading the Commanders in receiving in Week 2. Should continue to be a decent TE2.
  • Foster Moreau, NO v Phi (11th) - Moreau only got one target last week, which would have been good for a 26-yard TD, but it got called back because of a penalty. Moreau's opportunities are too inconsistent to be counted on for fantasy. but he also has a relatively high ceiling and can be a dart-throw if you are in need of help at TE.
  • *Jonnu Smith, MIA @ Sea (26th) - Smith's volume jumped in Week 2, catching 6 of 7 targets for 53 yards. If Skylar Thompson fills in for Tua Tagovailoa in Week 3, expect Smith to be involved as a reliable safety valve for Thompson.
  • *Brenton Strange, Jac @ Buf (27th) - Caught 3 of 6 targets for 65 yards. If Evan Engram remains out for Week 3, Strange will continue to be involved, possibly as the Jags No. 1 TE.

Kickers

  • Austin Seibert, Wsh @ Cin (18th)
  • Blake Grupe, NO v Phi (19th)
  • Cairo Santos, Chi @ Ind (29th)
  • Chase McLaughlin, TB v Den (13th)
  • Brayden Narveson, GB @ Ten (17th)

Defense / Special Teams

  • Minnesota Vikings v Hou (20th)
  • Green Bay Packers @ Ten (32nd)
  • Kansas City Chiefs @ Atl (18th)
  • Houston Texans @ Min (17th)

*Available in my league with 24-player rosters
