Quarterback
Injury – Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders (Q – Hamstring)
Opportunity – Marcus Mariota
Daniels left Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys with a hamstring injury and did not return. This is a concern for rushing quarterbacks like Daniels, and although it was encouraging to see him jogging to the locker room, this could be a multi-week injury. At the very least, expect an absence next week.
Marcus Mariota has filled in admirably while Daniels has missed time. He’s a spot start in deeper superflex leagues. With all the injuries to this offense, it’s hard to see who else truly benefits besides Zach Ertz, who is a low-end TE1.
Injury – Jaxon Dart, New York Giants (Q – Ankle)
Opportunity – Russell Wilson
Dart left in the third quarter with an ankle injury but was able to finish the game. Although this is encouraging, adrenaline (and maybe some smelling salts) probably helped him push through. The current fear is a high-ankle sprain, which is typically a multi-week injury.
Russell Wilson really isn’t an answer for fantasy managers, and he likely hurts most of this offense, so slightly downgrade your NYG players.
Injury – Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers (Q – Ankle)
Opportunity – Andy Dalton
Young exited against the Jets with an ankle sprain and did not return. Reports indicate he will miss next week’s game. If that’s the case, Andy Dalton gets the start. He was relevant in his starts last year, and more of the same is reasonable this year. However, Tetairoa McMillan managers can pump the brakes. This may be more of an Xavier Legette boost than anything else, as we saw on Sunday. Expect the Panthers to run even more—game script willing.
Running Back
Injury – Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints (O – ACL)
Opportunity – Alvin Kamara
Miller has torn his ACL, per reports, and is out for the remainder of the season. This leaves Alvin Kamara as the clear lead in this backfield once again. Without going too deep here, Kamara managers should feel a bit more confident as the increased workload should raise his floor.
Wide Receiver
Injury – Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars (Q – Shoulder)
Opportunity – Travis Hunter, Parker Washington
Brian Thomas Jr. re-injured the same shoulder he hurt in training camp and is now in danger of missing next week. Luckily for him, the Jaguars have a bye. I expect him to be back in Week 9.
If he can’t go, Travis Hunter may be upgraded to a full-time offensive starter to fill the void, which would be great for his fantasy prospects. He broke out last week, immediately working as the WR1 for the Jaguars, and can be upgraded to a low-end WR2. Parker Washington is an interesting flex play. His volume seems somewhat secure and, if things are tough, he looks like a safer flex option in deep leagues.
Tight End
Injury – Darren Waller, Miami Dolphins (D – Pectoral)
Opportunity – Jaylen Waddle, Devon Achane
Darren Waller’s Cinderella story may be coming to an abrupt halt. Reports indicate a pectoral injury, which could be season-ending. Whether that’s the case or not, Waller has a lengthy injury history, and I would expect him to miss time regardless of the exact severity.
Jaylen Waddle and Devon Achane become that much more necessary to this offense. They can be slightly upgraded—but does it really matter if Tua Tagovailoa can’t get them the ball? A −27.5 EPA last week is a stat from the wrong side of history.
