Now that we are three games into the NBA Finals, it feels like a good time to revisit my NBA Finals DFS roster and make any necessary changes. Therein lies the best part about playing in NBA DFS leagues. If your roster does not measure up, you can just draft a different one.
And I will be making some changes.
My NBA Finals DFS Roster: Game 1 Results
Trying to play the economic angle by drafting Chet Holmgren as my MVP was a mistake. Yes, I saved some money, but what I got from him was certainly not worth the cost. The man scored six whole points, pulled down six boards, and had one block for a whole 15.2 points.
Jalen Williams had a decent night with 17 points, four rebounds, and six assists for 33.8 points. Tyrese Haliburton wasn’t too bad either with 14 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and a steal for 35 points.
As for the rest of the roster, Myles Turner contributed 28.8 fantasy points, Andrew Nembhard chipped in 25.8, and Aaron Nesmith was good for 23.9.
Not bad overall, but since I shot myself in the foot with Holmgren, my roster was already in trouble to start with. So, yeah—time for some changes.
My New NBA Finals DFS Roster
Chet is out as my MVP. In his place, I’ll need someone whom I can count on to do well. He doesn’t necessarily have to blow up every night (but if he wants to, that’s okay). I just need to count on him probably playing well.
Now, I don’t have access to pricing at the moment. As I write this in the wake of Indiana’s win over OKC in Game 3, FanDuel does not have anything posted for the NBA (yet). So, I am going to have to wing it for a bit.
NBA Finals DFS Roster Pick: MVP
I thought about going with SGA here this time, but I think I have to pass again simply because it’ll be too expensive. That leaves Williams or Haliburton—and Haliburton is my guy.
Williams is playing well and consistently with 33.8, 33.5, and 36.7 fantasy points. But Haliburton has had 35, 36.6, and 54.3. I want reliable production from MVP, but if there's also a good chance my MVP might take off, I’ll take it.
NBA Finals DFS Lineup: the Rest of the Roster
Williams is an obvious choice. Haliburton may have more upside, but they are both excellent DFS options. I absolutely want both for my lineup. But taking Haliburton and Williams takes a big chunk out of my available salary.
I think I need to have Myles Turner again. Because of his price tag, he’s the logical player to cut. But he has been a reliable, consistent performer (28.8, 23.8, and 28.9 fantasy points).
That means I’m going to have to be thrifty with these last two picks. Since I don’t know just how much they’ll cost, I’ll give you a few guys that I’d be happy with for the last two slots:
- Bennedict Mathurin: he was quiet in Games 1 and 2 but then blew up for Game 3 with 36 fantasy points. With these last two slots, I’m okay with taking a chance.
- Isaiah Hartenstein: He is not excelling in any one category, but he does enough in several to be effective for 20+ points a night.
- T.J. McConnell: With 28.2 and 27.8 fantasy points in our last two games. That kind of production from the low end of the roster is invaluable.
- Luguentz Dort: he only accounted for 16.8 and 9.9 fantasy points in the last two games, but had 39.3 in Game 1. I’m assuming that his price tag will be low, but if he can have another night like he had in Game 1…he could be the steal of the draft.
