Fantasy football has been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. I started playing fantasy football when I was 13. Yes, 13. Before I knew it, I was playing in leagues online, leagues with my friends, even leagues with my teachers. I would play in as many leagues as I could, as often as I could. I was always looking for that new game, and that new strategy to take me over the top. Once I got a little older, and went off to college it wasn’t enough to just play during the season. I found myself wanting more. That’s when I found out about dynasty leagues. From that moment on I was hooked. From drafting my own new startup teams, to adopting orphan teams and trying to turn them into contenders, I couldn’t get enough. Fast forward to today, and here I am, a semi-responsible adult… running 55 dynasty leagues. No one plans on running 55 dynasty leagues, but after a while my leagues were like my pets. I couldn’t just let one go, or move on from them.
As you might imagine, during my time playing fantasy football, I tried just about every product on the market. Most of the time, I came to the disappointing conclusion that I was better than the product I was using. That is at least until recently. In 2011, I had an all-time disappointing season. Out of all my leagues, I won one stinking championship. My orphans weren’t getting it turned around the way I wanted. Teams that I had built into contenders were falling apart. I realized all this information I was getting from all these products was confusing me and leading me to make bad decisions. I also came to realize, I simply didn’t have the time I used to have to get the edge on my opponents on my own. I needed to do something different to find a way to get back to winning, either find a way to change the game, or cut down to a normal person’s number of leagues.
So, like any good nerd would do, I got on Google, and did my research. I looked at product after product. At first, I was again disappointed. Everything seemed like something I had tried before. Who’s to say this expert or that expert would be any better than something I had already tried before? That’s when I found The Machine. Instantly I was intrigued. It was nothing like anything I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe that there a product like this existed. I also had trouble believing it could do all it said it could do. I contacted support to find out more, and after being very impressed with the software, I ended up with a license for every one of my leagues. It wasn’t long before I was taking The Machine’s input on every one of my decisions. The subscriptions I had to other websites and services were sitting unused, and I was building stronger rosters than I could ever remember.
When the season came, I was even more blown away. I was making smarter decisions in regards to waivers, lineups, and trades. The wins started piling up, and my teams kept getting better and better. When the final standings came down, I had won 8 championships, made the playoffs in 30 leagues, and pocketed a nice sum of cash winnings. Not only that, the teams that did not make the playoffs were looking much better than they were before. I was competing in leagues where before I was a doormat. Also, The Machine was putting up results across many different formats. PPR leagues, standard scoring leagues, IDP leagues, big play bonus leagues, leagues with deep rosters, leagues with small rosters. No matter what I threw at The Machine, it wasn’t just able to handle it; it was able to dominate it. My past mistakes didn’t seem to matter to The Machine, it just kept winning.
Out of the 55 leagues I played in this year, I should point out the league I feel best illustrates The Machine’s dominance. This league had all kinds of problems at the start of the season. I had issues up and down my roster. It seemed like the season was shot before it even began. I started out 0-5, and was already looking to next year. However, that is when The Machine started to take over. After a 0-5 stretch, I won 8 straight games, all the way to a division crown and a playoff appearance. Now, I did not take down the title, in fact, I lost in the opening round of the playoffs. But the simple fact that The Machine was able to make this disaster of a team into a contender shows that The Machine is able to make the best of even a horrible situation.
I know that The Machine is new and different. It is unlike anything most have ever used before. Being a new product, it still needs some polish, and like any fantasy product it works best with a little bit of good player’s intuition. The Machine was an instrumental part of every one of my victories, but I still found that I did disagree with The Machine’s recommendations from time to time. With that bit of polish in mind, I am very pleased to say that I will be helping improve upon The Machine going forward.
Early on in this fantasy season, after talking back and forth with the folks at Advanced Sports Logic, I was asked if I could come on board and help with The Machine in several areas. I could not express how happy I was to get an opportunity to work with such a great product. My areas of focus are customer support, and advanced feature development and improvements. I look forward to helping you to make sure The Machine is working for you hassle-free, and providing you with the best chance to win your league. At the same time, based on understanding your needs, I will be working with the development team to dream up and improve The Machine so that it becomes the must-have tool for all fantasy football players.
